Starter Motor 1997 H1 with the Turbo Diesel
Any ideas on where to get a starter motor? I have searched the web and I have seen prices ranging from $85.00 to $1100.00!
I have heard that starters work off GM trucks but just not sure what to do. Any help is appreciated!
Thanks,
Eric

The stock starters are about $1100. They are big and heavy & very heavy duty and come with no warrenty but last a very long time. The small gear reduction starters are mostly delco- remy reman which are good starters but some junk out there are from china. A delco-remy is a good starter with a lifetime warrenty for a few hundred dollars(it's the most popular starter brand in the world of all manufacturers). Do NOT buy the china one!
You might need to replace it every few years. All 6.5 starters require one,two or no shims. The shims are different thicknesses. Can be between 0 and .150". Basicly if it hang in and wont disingage and binds add more shim. If it grinds and jumps teeth-this will quickly damage flyeheel remove most of the shim. If you think your starter is going out replace your batteries first then think about the starter.
