Squeak in front right
Hey Guys..long time no talk..
Who knows how long this has been happening but it was warm out the other day up here in MI and so I rolled the windows down only to find out that I have a squeak or squeal coming from my front end. Specifically the right front wheel.
The tone and loudness is something similar to a brake pad starting to go bad and has the resonance that you would expect to hear when the rotor was being tickled. I have 55k miles on my pads with half of those on 35" tires so that could be a culprit however using the brakes does not effect the sound at all.
When I roll slowly at about a walking pace, I can hear what sounds like 5 or more distinctive squeaks all the way around the wheel rotation with the middle one being the loudest and the others fading. Think of what it would sound like to have sandy mud on your rotor..thats the noise I am talking about. It is definitely related to the rotating wheel.
My gut instinct is telling me the noise pattern sounds like a bearing. If you think thats it, is that a project I can do myself?
It obviously needs to stop because now that I am aware of it, I can hear it all the time and it bugs me!!!! I dont know if it stops at high speed because eventually the hummmmm of my tire tread drowns out the squeal and its hard to tell if it is still doing it.
Anybody have suggestions for a fix? My local dealer was great but they shut down in these hard times so I am a bit cautions just dropping off my rig at any ole GM Goodwrench and telling them there is a squeak. I would like to give them a particular starting point.
