Default Sloopy steering repair and hydroboost repair

I've been fighting the dreaded steering issues in my H2. I was convinced that the play in the wheel was from a bad steering box. Well 3 boxes later I still had the same problem. So, I decided I would replace everything connected to the steering. Low and behold it turned out to be a completely worn out center link. I had replaced tie rods once before but looking back I never had the truck lifted off the ground to test the sloppiness. My wheel literally had 3/4" play in either direction making for some fun driving on FL roads.

I also replaced my power steering pump, it had a slight wine that bothered me. Once that was replaced the hydro-boost promptly started leaking from the increase in pressure. So that was pulled for a rebuild instead of replacement. I ordered a kit for $49.99 that had every part conceivable versus buying a new unit for $500.00.

Its all back together now and driving like a new truck. I'm going to do a torsion bar lift on the front, send it for new tires and another alignment and life should be good again.

Next on the list is a LSA blower from boost direct......

Good post. Thanks. I have been battling steering issues as well. Ever since my mechanic replaced the pitman arm my steering is crap. I dont drive it much and i noticed that in the corners it would float to the to the opposite direction you were turning on long bends on highways. Then in the rain or on ice the right tire felt like one of those crazy shopping cart wheels. Brought it back in and he had an alignment shop put it on their rack. They said that something was bent and one side was out an inch.

Long story short, he somehow got rid of the inch. My inner tires are wearing and the steering is tight and almost doesnt recenter after turning and letting go of the wheel. The camber doesnt look right to me. I think he tightened up the adjustment through the steering box. No longer my mechanic. I hate the steer ing so much. I dont enjoy driving it like i used to and was contemplating selling it. I came to my senses and if i have to replace everysteering and suspension component to get her back to the h2 I knew and love. Thats what will happen.

Did you have any of these symptoms?

Now i am building my shopping list

Sounds like he did make the adjustment on top of the box. Its an easy fix, 5/8 wrench and an allen head. Back the allen out 1/2 turn at a time.

I'd also check your ball joints for the tire wear.
