Default Rough idle, low coolant, possible leak?

Over the past week I've noticed my 2006 H3 w/ Adventure @ 71,000 miles is idling rough again. So I popped the hood and discovered two new issues;

1. My coolant has gone down since the fall. (You can see a pencil marking on the resevoir where it used to be).

2. There appears to be a leak coming from a bolt on the front of the motor, near the serpentine belt.

- Is the leak near the bolt related to losing coolant? Any info on this is gladly appreciated.

I had a small leak and was hard to find as it would dry up quickly, take your skid plate off and look up by the front of the motor and you may see where your are leaking. mine was the water pump. not hard to change. And the bolt in the picture looks like oil to me.

Thanks, I'll take a look this weekend.
So you think the leak on the bolt is oil? Should I attempt to tighten the bolt to eliminate the leak ?

Stupid questions are the ones not asked!

That bolt is through the timing chain cover, only thing behind that is oil, no coolant. Leave the bolt alone, clean the cover and see if the leak actually is a leak, continues or gets worse.

If it ain't drippin, it ain't a leak.

Default Thanks doc

Copy that, I'll just clean the area around the bolt and monitor.

I'll also fill the coolant back to the correct level and remark with pencil.

I'll also do a fuel trim monitor and possibly a compression test. Really worried about this intermittent cylinder 5misfire.

What was the outcome? I have the same thing happening. Losing lots of coolant though. Even while the car is not running. Looks to be originating behind the water pump pulley. Not sure

The results:

1 Leaking Coolant= I refilled the coolant back to the pencil mark, and to date it hasn't lowered. (Unsure as to why is leaked to begin with)

2 seeping stain near the bolt on the front of motor= It has grown larger. I talked to a master technician and he said it might be due to me switching to synthetic oil, as it apparently can "weep" through small areas. Well, sure enough, my oil level was slightly low. So I put more synthetic 5W30 in it.

Haven't touched the bolt yet, but was thinking maybe I could tighten it to stop the leak?

I had a Toyota with a cracked head that had a rough idle, lost a little oil and lost a little water. Nothing on the ground and no external signs. There was some oil in the water reservoir.

I wouldn't be surprised I have the same problem. I've had an on and off cyclinder 5 misfire for a year (after much troubleshooting and replacement).
Waiting until it gets ugly before I send it in for repairs.
