You "welding" through paper UPC stickers?

Stack of dimes need no grinding.

Good luck with the project.

Thanks I appreciate that, I am looking at a couple of different options Powder coat is one of those options and I have used this coating called Durabek 18 in the past and the coating is bullet proof. The Navy uses it for the decks on the ships. I still have a long way to go still need to get the bracketing adjusted and then weld in the top bar and the rear light mount. It was exciting to see it on the H3.

Looks good so far. What is the tub wall thickness for the frame?

For as much as you pay for a Gobi, they use pretty thin cheap white metal.

Well I had to compensate for the weight and how much will I really be hauling along and for the adventures I get into I made a final decision to go with 1" EMT which is about 1.8 mm thick and 3/4" EMT Which is about 1.5 mm thick then the expanded metal is 9 gauge. When combined the correct way becomes very strong. I am 6'4" 200lbs and it easily holds my weight and more. The brackets connected to the H3 track are 1/4" thick and create a great base for the frame which will be welded directly to the frame.

If you are going to be putting more than 200lbs up there you will want to remove the head liner and reinforce ALL of the roof track mounting areas. They are just rivnuts. 200lbs max including the rack.
