Rear Bumper Damage-Camera Found-Not Connected
The rear bumper on my '06 H3 just took a hit. I'm trying to find a replacement bumper, but when I was looking closely at the bumper and found a camera behind the bumper.
First off, I didn't realize my Hummer had a rear camera, but even more puzzling is figuring out how to make it work and if I need to find a bumper that accomodates a camera. I can't tell where the camera was installed previously. I'm guessing the bumper had been replaced before, but the replacement bumper didn't have a camera mount.
Anyway, I'm trying to find out 1) Do I have a working camera? (how to hook it up, test it, etc.) and 2) Is there a specific bumper I need to find that has a rear camera mount?

Backup camera was not a factory option until 08 so you have an aftermarket. It looks like a license tag mounted one. There are also hitchcams available aftermarket. As for your question about a special bumper, I don't think they are any different just may have hole cut to house the camera. I haven't looked at it that closely. Follow the wires.

There are actually different OEM part numbers for rear bumper With or Without OEM backup camera. They are mounted in a hole to the right of the license plate.

That looks an awful lot like one available at my local AutoZone as an aftermarket add-on. I have on '06, and when my factory Monsoon internally shorted, I added one with my new aftermarket receiver. I took a trailer hitch receiver blank, drilled a hole in the middle and wired it with quick disconnects so if I need my hitch, I just remove the entire assembly.. I have a lock on the hitch to make sure I keep it instead of donating to someone else's vehicle.
