Hi all, I havesome questions about brakes;

I have a 06 H3 with around 50k miles, when typically is a good time to change the brakes?

The dealership said i need to replace them, at a cost of $600, and at times i sense that they (the brakes)are bad but other times they seem fine. Is this price high? Dealership said the pads were almost worn out. I called a few other dealerships, both 2 hrs away, with prices around $400 too.

You should be able to do it yourself. From what I here it's pretty easy. I'd pop one of the tires off and look to see how much meat you got on those pads.
