Default Preventing Torque Converter Lockup???

Is there a way to prevent the Torque Converter from locking up while in Drive in my 2006 H3?

I ask because I'm wondering if it would be better to tow my 3,500 lb boat in Drive (4th gear) without the torque converter locking and unlocking than towing in 3rd gear.

I have seen this done on an older car make / model by splicing a switch into the wiring harness to remove power to the torque converter lock-up solenoid.

Or would running in D without locking up the torque converter for a 30 mile / 50 minute trip not be a good idea?

Thanks

Also check engine light. Look into one of those Power Commander or Super Chip programs for your PCM. Do some research. They might change shift points and lock up RPMs.

I towed a 4500# boat/tandem trailer load from Wisconsin to NE of Detroit, about 440 miles one way in Drive, 70 MPH the entire way with my 2007 on 33 MTZ in full off road gear (weighs about 6000# with me in it).

Do not see what the issue is or why you would not use drive.

Per the 2006 owner's manual:
"If you have an automatic transmission, you can
tow in DRIVE (D). You may want to shift the
transmission to THIRD (3) or, if necessary, a lower
gear if the transmission shifts too often under
heavy loads and/or hilly conditions."

I always drive in 3rd on city/country roads up to 55mph,(less wear up-shifting/downshifting) when I get on the highway and drive 60mph+ I switch to 4th, then back to 3rd when I exit the highway.
