PreProduction K&N Intake for 07s
Hi everyone
About 6 months ago, I loaned by 07 to K&N to help them develop an intake system. As you know, K&N currently does not offer an intake system for the 07s.
The parts finally got produced and they installed the intake yesterday
I only have about 50 miles on it so far, but here are my initial thoughts/observations:
There is no additional noise from the intake (a good thing)
No appreciable difference in performance (to be expected I guess)
Effect on mpg is tbd (fingers crossed)
Ok, I'm no engineer, but...
Wouldn't this open box design (with the hood creating the "top") be more susceptible to dirt than the stock air box?
Also, would the the stock intake, which I believe sucks air in from the fenderwell, provide cooler air than this design? Seem like this is gonna pull hot air right off the back of the radiator, no?
Perhaps just a K&N filter in the stock set up would be better.
No word from them on when this will be avaialable for sale or for what price. I'm guessing over 3 bills. They did say they are still waiting for CARB approval.
What do you guys think?
Thanks for your comments...here's a couple of pics ( I know how you love pics)

The main difference between this 07 CAI set up and their 06 is that the MAF sensor is a different shape/mounts to the intake tube in a different orientation and surface attachment. So, all the basic claims for the 06 should apply to the 07 as well.
The theory (not sure if I buy it completely) is that the K&N set up blocks off the underhood engine heat and draws cool air from the Pssgr side inner fender (like the stock box) and thru the front behind the headlight area, provides a smooth intake tube by removing the resonator box and factory rubber accordian connectors for less restricted intake air flow. People that have the 06 claim they can feel something in the seat of the pants??
I say on a 4700# vehicle, if you make 15hp, it would be very difficult to "feel" it, but it could be measured by dyno or track times.

I see the resonator in the pic, but I just assumed....................and we know what that is worth [&:], that the final system would have that removed. IDK????
The engineering is all at the other end, the tube just needs a few extra inches in length to eliminate the resonator box if that is what the product to the public will be.
