I've seen MANY posts on oil prefrences but don't remember seeing any on Oil filters. Just wondering which ones are prefered and why ? Are there any independent tests rating oil filters ?

K&N makes some nice ones, I just use the AC Delco, Fram too at times. Check out the K&N link on the right banner K&N Engineering, Inc.

I always use Fram. They are easy to find and not expensive.

I have taken a few brand name filters apart to compare them. And I will never use fram again.

These are the ones I looked at ranked in order:

K and N - Very well built filter and a lot of filtering material.

Mobil 1 - Same as K and N

Bosch - Metal top and bottom holding filter together. Good filter for the money.

Motorcraft - Same as Bosch with alot of material.

AC - Tied with Motorcraft

STP - Not as much material inside, but still has metal holding it together inside.

Fram - Very little filtering Material, and is only held together with cardboard

This was all done with a standard ford filter. PH8A in fram.

I used to use fram all the time till I saw this. Now I go with Bosch or AC on the H2.

Does your 'stang take the PH8A?

I use Fleetguard's LF3313 in place of the PH8A at work for the Fords.... they seem to hold up well... especially since they are on there for a year.

I have never even seen an STP oil filter, I knew they made em, but woudn't even know where to buy one???
In a similar vien of thought, they sell a lot of Purolators up here in MI, but not at all the stores. I might of used one here or there over the years?
