Possibly bad A/C compressor
Hello everyone, I am a new member but a long time follower of posterior. I have a 2007 hummer H3 that I am having AC problems with. The blower works fine but it is no longer cooling. It didn’t gradually get worse. We started it one day. Heard a whining noise that I assume to be the compressor and then it never got cool. It has plenty of Freon. I am leaning toward a bad compressor. I can see that the clutch on the compressor engages but does not seem to turn the compressor. In other words the center part of the pulley remain still while the clutch spins. Am I on the right track? Or is there something else that might keep the compressor from turning even with the “engaged? Thank you in advance!
The center part of the pulley is the "clutch". If the clutch doesn't engage, the problem could be a blown fuse, an open in the wire to the clutch coil, a bad clutch coil, a poor ground, or a low pressure lockout.
it could be a worn compressor clutch, or weak clutch coil. if the center part is not spinning but the clutch engages.
they sell them as a replacement kit or clutch and coil separate.
you can also try spinning the center section by hand with the car off to see if it can even spin if not the compressor might be seized but i am sure you would hear belt squeal.... well if you still have a belt at that point.
