Possible Mod (around view Camera)
Hey guys, I was wondering, if it possible or if anyone has tried to place 4 cameras (around view) on your H3? I was thinking one on each mirror (under) on in front and the back up one. Is this possible to do aftermarket?

Yes, it's possible and I have it installed on mine. You'll have the Range Rover Evoque feel after that. One cam up front under the bumper, two under the wing mirrors and one in the rear.
I got my system from China (about 120-140 USD, without display). It gives you a live 360 view and simultaneously records all 4 channels. I mounted a 4-inch display above my dash and it works great. Great for off-roading, getting around tight corners and insurance claims (if that ever happens).
It's available on China's version of ebay (called taobao.com)
2012
See the screen on the pic i attached - it feeds 4 channels live to the display on top of the dash (RHD H3, SA version for UK and Asia).

Check out rearviewsafety.com. Tons of options and they have top of the line cameras. It's all in the camera!

xakiat,
Can you use an aftermarket in dash DVD (i have one instead of the factory radio) How does it work? you have a switch for it or is it always on? How long did it take for it to get to you after you ordered it? Can you show me pics of the location of the Cameras? I want to do this as soon as possible! Almost backed into a Prius last night! :0

Yes, you can - it's dependent on the in-dash system you have. If you have RCA inputs, you can. But using the in-dash head unit to display the 360 view means you can't have your music on when the images are beamed in live from the cams outside.
The H3 - built like a tank - is full of blind spots, so I installed this when I bought the car.
For the 360 cam system it's better to have a dedicated LCD for the purpose. I have a 4-inch LCD on the dash, it's retractable, and it's small enough not to block your driver's view. Turning on the 360 cam system is easy. It can be set to turn on upon sensing motion from the car, or turned on via remote on the steering. Depending on how you wire the system, you can have it always-on (even with the engine off), or only on when the key's turned to ON.
The remote can be attached/detached from the steering. All video is recorded in an endless loop on a standard SD card.
I've attached pictures of where I placed my cams (you'll notice I have 2 cams in the back - one is an old cam that came with the sensor-based back-up system which came with the H3). Actually I'm thinking of placing the rear cam on the upper right/left side corner of the rear of the H3, you can probably see further and wider that way.
I bought this system when I was in Shanghai, the delivery was just a few days. Or do you need some help in purchasing and having it delivered to your address? We can discuss that separately via email.
Alternatively, if you can't wait, you can always invest in a set of simple beeping reverse-sensors first.

Here are some more pics of the system.
The LCD screen will switch to a 'left turn view' when the left turn signal is on, and a 'right turn view' when the right turn signal is on. When the reverse gear is engaged, it will show the back cam only, and a graphic of your 'landing zone'.
While driving/off roading, use the remote to switch views whenever the situation calls for it. You can switch views at any time from the remote (CH1-left, CH2-right, CH3-front, CH4-back).
The pic of the entire dash is also attached here. In this image I've engaged reverse gear. The in-dash LCD shows the rear view. The 4-inch mini LCD also shows the rear view (that's because i have two cams in the back - one came with the car when I bought it).
The last pic shows where the 360 cam's head unit is placed - under the steering wheel. It's the perfect place to receive remote signals, while being out of sight. All the external mini-cams are weatherproof.
Let me know if you have any questions. Or if any of you want to do a group buy of this system.
It's a fantastic system and I am very pleased with the result, and the practicality of this.
