Thanks for explanation. It sounds like the intake and tune are a good way to go for a HP increase. Probably no need for the average user to buy the HPtuner SW and cable.

Thanks,

Mike

Default 2008 H3 considering "Big Three"

Hey Doc,

So are you suggesting that the 08 H3's have better breathing and may not benefit as much from a CAI? I am also considering the Magnaflow Cat-Back system and a PCM tune to unleash full power capabilities.

Thanks!

No? Not at all, but it did come across that way a bit didn't it???

GM did improve with the 08s by enlarging the air filter box inlet snorkel diameter by a small margin, switched out the air filter box to use their multi-vehicle panel filter, and now uses a much better rubber (not cheap foam) seal to the inner fender. That snorkel could really help if the rest of the intake system did not suffer from the same problems the earlier version did.

You can take advantage of that GM redesigned snorkel with an intake that replaces the rest.

That same inlet and box design (there is a oh so slight difference in the box itself, but not significant for purposes here) feeds the Alpha nicely, so it is pleanty for the I5 and primed for a significant further improvement. The Alpha gets a larger improvement from an intake because of its 3 additional cylinders.

Still waiting for my K&N filter to arrive ☹.
No real numbers on the increase in power with the Air Doc CAI (still with the OEM air filter), Zoomers Catback, PCMforless and BFG 285/75-R16’s, but did a drag off with a new 3.7 H3T (Adventure pack with 285/75-R16’s).
The H3T shows 255HP in the Middle East and my 2006 H3 220HP. The H3T had one 170lb guy in it, 1 set of golf clubs and ¼ tank of gas. In my H3 there were two 200lb guys, two sets of golf clubs and a full tank of gas. We pulled away from him slowly up to 160kph (100mph) then his speed limiter kicked in.
I am very happy with the performance so far and will even be happier when the K&N arrives!
