Passlock Problem
I've encountered the dreaded passlock problem.
Using the "10 min in ON position then turn off x3, wait 30 sec, then crank" method, I've gotten the H3 to turn on.
Problem is, the passlock light never goes off.
I decided to out to eat & when I returned, I had go through though 30 waiting period to start the car. I drove it around as I am worried the battery will start to drain from 1 hour+ of leaving it on.The hummer will turn on within 15 minutes, but within a 30 to 45 minute window, it forgets & I have to go through the entire process again.
I checked the battery terminals & they were horrid (previous owner did nothing) & I cleaned them w/ WD40. Most of the corrosion is gone, but it's not fixing the issue. I'll be replacing the battery & the terminals with a pair of stingers anyways, but that doesn't seem to be the issue. I also tried touching the terminals to shock / "reboot" everything. As well, I left the negative terminal unplugged for 10 min. Those don't effect the problem.
Everything that I've read points to the ignition switch. Someone mentioned that the connectors on it are tin plates & oxidize. Not sure what idiot came up with that bright idea, but it's cheaper (and far less functional) than gold platting. I'm not up for buying a new ignition to have to go through this in another 3 years (it's humid here). The person who mentioned the tin platting also mentioned that his fix was to solder the connectors. I'm not comfortable doing that, nor have the soldering tools handy.
Is the best bet to find a mechanic who will be willing to try it or is there another method to fix it besides the ignition replacement which doesn't actually fix the problem?
Oh, the only other method I know is to order a bypass module. I'd be willing to do that as well. For anyone that's gone that route, is this something a novice can do or what level of skill is required?

i had this problem it was intermittent i replaced the battery and cable ends and have not had that problem any more. have your battery tested. mine only had 12.2 volts when off. when you tried to start it would drop to 10.9 volts
Thanks guys.
There seems to be a million different ways to fix this problem. Passlock is just a broken GM creation. Still better than any dodge I owned though!
WoodWardsh3, I actually have that on my todo list. It easily could be this. It was bought used & who knows how old the battery is. The terminals were flaking with corrosion. It's a sad sight.
rascole, PCM of NC is something I'll check out. Thanks!
I did some testing after posting this. I haven't had to redo the learn procedure, but my passlock always stays on now. It's weird. I have no issues starting it up. It easily could be the battery. Not sure if anyone's seen a passlock error that stays on, even though the vehicle runs fine. Nothing came up on google concerning that.
Once it's fixed, I'll update. Thanks guys!
