Hey Dennis,

I believed the on board computer tells you when it's time to change oil!

Am I wrong?
Dude, are you kidding me?[sm=nothatway.gif]

Nope..he's right..

GM in it's infinite wisdom thought it would be best to remind a HUMMER owner that his oil is ready for a change...it kicks out a message on the DIC (Driver's Information Center) to let you know that your oil is old and tired..I think it's around 7500 miles when it does this...In the OM it says to reset this timer (if you will) at each oil change..No biggy if you forget to..and OnStar is monitoring it for you too.[sm=happy046.gif]

I changed mine at 2,500. Then plan on going 5,000 after that. I use Royal Purple and although I see no difference in performance it has a good report even from Amsoil testing.

I received an Onstar report last week and it said that I was at 98% and my next oil change would be around 9,100 miles????? I don't think it can tell if you are using synthetic?

I change when the DIC lets me know. Been using that system with the wifes Cadillac SRX for the past 39000 miles without a problem. With synthetic it works out to between 9000 to 11000 miles.

When you add oil through the oil filler cap, it goes through a microprocesser to analize it. The data is then set to GM by way of On Star.
GM then makes the decision on their findings, gives it to On Star to download to your vehicle. Your onboard computer then gives you a % of oil life based on run time, temp, miles, and stop and go drivingName: prof24.gif

Hmmm, so the on board computer can tell what type oil you use....Cool as I do more stop and go driving than highway. I guess Royal Purple is the way to go after all![sm=smiley20.gif]

I will changing the oil and filter on my new H3 every 3000 miles like all my cars and trucks and have never hurt a motor yet. That change engine oil indicator/monitor comes on way to late for me. I have seen cars go 15k without it coming on. I will be using regular oil nothing against synthetic (I use it in my race car) I just feel changing every 3000 is more than sufficent. I also don't like a car not getting looked at on a regular basis as is what happens when you go 7.5k and up for a oil change. Steve

Hey Steve ~

What do you race?? My Daddy used to build race car engines he did so for my entire childhood. I was raised at the race track or in the shop. We spent every weekend at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA. My brother also raced a dirt bike. Me, nothing ... Dad wouldn't let me. All I got to do was sit in the drivers window, hold the winners flag and do a lap around the track. Although, that was really fun!! [sm=smiley17.gif]

I Have 1/4 mile drag car as another expensive hobby. I love Oldsmobile 442's and have a 70 Oldsmobile Cutlass that runs 10.30's @ 129 mph in the quater. There is nothing like leaving the line and seeing nothing but sky and your front wheels 24" of the ground. I like to watch nascar and other types of racing. I remember my Dad taking me to oval track racing when I was a kid also. Steve

When I went to the dealer to get my oil changed they were prety cool about it.

They offered a free hand washing of my Hummer and gave me nice glossy photo of the Rod Hall Hummer Race Team. They race the BAHA 1000. The dad, Rod, has won 17 BAHA races and he is now driving the H3. His two boys are driving the H1 and H2.

Here are the photos..
