Default No roof rack for you....

I just had my first usual service with a local GM dealership. I was so scared to leave it...separation anxiety!! It all went well as far as I know. I asked them to check on roof racks. Service guy came back and said no more GM roof racks in stock for the H3. He made several calls. I was standing there as he made the attempts. He seemed frustrated also.

This is a bummer.

Any ideas? I just wanted the bars that go across the top.

Guess that they didn't try hard enough, they could have ordered them GM Parts Direct: Your direct source for Genuine GM Parts enter part number 12498492. I'm sure you could find them even cheaper.

Wow. Thanks!! Okay on the search I did find two options. Which do I get for the 2010 Alpha? I called the dealership guy in charge of parts.
Told him about finding what I needed. He said they only came in black or a chrome type finish. I cannot see photos of the exact rails.

This is great. But I am confused about this. The second one, he said, was for speical editions including the Alpha?

You get what you pay for. Don't get me wrong, you can find some deals on Ebay. Somethings it doesn't hurt to pay a little extra for.

That's where the similarity ends. As Airborne said, you get what you pay for. When I decided to get a set, the e-bay version looked like the way to go until I did some research. The OEM cross bars are thick, extruded aluminum that are rated at 250lb. capacity, where the aftermarket cross bars are thin, formed stainless steel rated at 150lb. capacity. The aftermarkets reviews had a lot of complaints about the cheap keys 'bending' and the release arms snapping off. The way you can visually tell the difference is the OEM's have the word HUMMER molded into the end caps, where the aftermarkets have molded in squares, and they give you a set of stainless steel letters to stick on (by the way, these letters fit perfectly into the letter recesses if you wanted to purchase a set and add to OEM bars). Also, the aftermarkets will advertise 'OEM style', with 'style' being the key word in fooling you into thinking you're getting a genuine HUMMER part. Bottom line is, if you're just getting them for show, then the aftermarkets will work just fine, but if you want them to function satisfactorily, then stick with the OEM's. True, the OEM's cost 3 to 4 times what the e-bay versions are going for, but if you shop around, you can find some deals. I got mine off Craigslist, like new, for $90!

If you want crossbars to carry stuff, check out Thule's system for H3. Once set up, they simply click on and off as needed.

Thanks everyone. Halo, what you described is what I want for my H3. OEM is original manufacturer? I am new to this and have not bought on line from Craig's list or anywhere else.

Would have responded sooner but computer was down due to switching over to high speed and then a vacation in Lake Tahoe. First big trip for the H3 since driving it home from AZ last January. It was great!!
