Default New here

Just picked up a new to me H3. It has the adventure package and chrome wheels. I look forward to seeing what others have done to their H3, and moding mine some.

I'm fairly new here as well, bought my H3 a week and a half ago but was on the board for a couple/few weeks asking way too many questions before I bought it. So far my mods have been to remove the big ugly "HUMMER" vinyl lettering on the side, and remove the chrome nerf bars. Next up will be to crank the torsion bars to level it a bit.

You plan to take yours offroad or is it stuck living the life of a mall crawler?

edit: almost forgot, welcome to the board!

Plans are to do the torsion crank tomorrow. Other than that it will just be a daily driver that hauls my boat and camping trailer. Some offroading but nothing big. I like dent free vehicles.

I pick up my 08 Alpha in 2 days and the first thing i'm going to do is level it and take of the nerf bars for sure. Then tires and rims down the road maybe in the spring!

Hey Guys...new here..But I was wondering how to level the front end out on my H3. I was looking into the leveling kit but I saw you guys have mentioned a torsion crank. Can I do that in place of the leveling kit? Thanks

Definitely don't waste your money on a kit. The Torsion bars are more than adequate for leveling. Do a quick search on here are you will easily find all the info you could ever need on a torsion crank.

its very simple to crank the torsion bars. 27mm ratchet, bolt heads are located in a cross frame in between the front and rear doors underneath vehicle. i wouldnt raise it more than 2 1/4in.

Here's a question for you all...If you've bought a H3 that's had a leveling kit installed can you crank the torsion bars to lift the front end even higher?

GM models come with a hefty rake to them, lower in the front by at least 2", undesirable by many owners. Some owners would just like a small amount of lift in the front to be able to run a slightly larger tire. There are a number of companies out there selling a leveling kit that consists of new torsion bar adjuster keys, and claim that they will not affect the ride of the vehicle. This is a false claim. It is a fallacy that cranking the torsion bars up on a vehicle stiffens the ride. This just is not true, but cranking the torsion bars can affect other areas of the suspension system that will give a harsh ride. Just cranking the torsion bars, or adding the new adjusters preloads the suspension more to raise the height of the front of the vehicle. The problem is that the shocks and upper control arms bottom out to soon, giving the harsh ride. By cranking the torsion bars, you are not changing the spring rate of the torsion bars. There are also companies selling leveling kits that consist of the new torsion bar adjuster keys, and slightly longer front shocks. While this kit will ride better than the previously stated kit, you only gain a fraction of an inch of travel, because even though the shock is not bottoming out any more, the factory upper control arm is still bottoming out on the bump-stop way too soon, again giving a harsh ride. In fact, the torsion bar adjuster keys are not even needed in most cases, because the factory adjusters could have been turned up all the way to achieve the same ride height. Just purchasing the longer shocks would be a better investment than purchasing the new torsion bar adjusters.

Cliffs: Do not crank the keys. Just my $.02

Absolutely NOT !!!!

Leveling max's out the front end component angles. Anything over 24" measured from bottom of fender well to center of wheel WILL cause premature failure of said components.
Most people crank t-bars to get to about 23 1/2".
