I have been thinking about installing a navigation system in my H3. I am trying to figure out which set up would be best. I have looked at a used H3 oem system or should I go with an aftermarket system. I want to keep my xm abilities and would like to be able to hook up my ipod and have blue tooth capabilities. Any suggestions on what would be best??

 

I have oem in my 2007, it is ok...would be better if it had an auxiliary jack and if it were sirius instead of xm. Have to have a separate receiver to get my Sirius. What has been nice though is that GM sends me a updated nav disc for free every year.

 

Sirius and XM are now one company.
The numbered channels are some what similar, but not the same

i have the OEM Nav. in my 07 and like it allot.
It shows a amazing amount of dirt (off) roads in the national forest area here in Nevada.
I also have a pioneer AVIV D3 in my other vehicle and I am very disappointed with the
display and its graphics
I would opt for the factory Nav.

 

SiriusXM are one company but if you have XM you have to pay extra fro Sirius channels that XM did not have originally.

 

I asked this not long ago on another forum. I have an 07 with Nav and XM. Since we can't pair our OnStar phone to our Verizon account anymore I would like to be able to pair my phone to the built in mic and speakers. It would also be nice to be able to hook up a backup camera and maybe even hookup an mp3 player or something for some external music.

I've been looking at the Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD. It is a nice unit with a 7" touch screen but you have to add modules for every 'goodie' that you want it to have. By the time I buy the bluetooth module, the navigation module, and the XM module, it is going to end up being a pretty expensive unit! And you also have to add something else if you want to keep your chimes - like door open, key in ignition, lights on, etc.

It would be nice to be able to hook the base unit up and keep the stock nav, the stock mic and speaker outputs for the phone, etc. but I don't think that is possible. And I also heard I would lose OnStar if I changed the stock unit out for aftermarket.

I have been wondering if a later stock unit would have some of the capabilities I want and could just be added into my truck and be a better deal. Any ideas? Thanks.

 

That is correct, but it has been in their (SirusXM) interest to offer the same programs that each separate company had originally.
I had XM first and I now can get the optional programs that Sirius had as a stand alone company.
P.S. I like Howard Stern, but not enough to pay extra for him

I am leaning towards the oem because it is cheaper, and I believe the newer ones were bluetooth capable.

 

The bluetooth option in later H3s integrated with, but was not a sole function of, the nav.

 

That must be nice... I am looking for an update disk for my 06 H3 nav. It still has the original 06 disk in it. I could order a new disk from GM for $200.... but considering how crappy the 06 version is (as far as POI's are conserned) I just cant see doing that.

Anyone know a good place to pick up newer disks?
