When they announced the Alpha, one of the official videos talked about the iron diff being a clean swap with all H3s. It probably comes down to part availability and price at this point. Good luck!

Well, the cast-iron diff is almost $1800 just for the part, so that's not going to happen. I guess I'll just take my chances. So far, I've been ok, but if those bushings keep cracking, I won't take it off-road anymore. Three times is a little rediculous.

HummerMike IS the one taking care of my truck.[8D] He is the reason why they found the things I've been complaining about for a year. He had one of the expert techie GM travelling service guys (I don't remember what they are called) look at it (a different one then last time) and that's when he found all that crap wrong with it that the others didn't. Mike always takes care of me He works 10 to 12 hour days like me, but he doesnt' have time to come on here like I do. That's what makes AT&T hold times great for me

The parts and labor is $1780 is what he told me. Actually he said that's what it would cost to put it in, so I'm assuming the part alone is pretty damn expensive. AND, he said that's assuming nothing special has to be done to my '06 to make it fit, but in THEORY, it should be a direct replacement.

Thank you. Now, parts and labor, got the labor part. Is that price a complete front Cast Iron diff. w/ gears, bearings the works, to repalce yours as a complete unit? Or, is that the price for the diff. carrier itself, and the labor to swap in your present gears, bearings etc.?? Ask HMike when you pick up your truck and please let us know. Thanks again brud.

I remember when the gears in my rear diff in the XJ blew up, it cost about 1100 but that was with a refurb carrier, so 1700 is probably in the right ballpark. It's definitely not cheap, but if you're going through the expense I'm sure it's not that much of a cost difference between the aluminum vs. iron.

Thanks for the update.

I find it hard to understand how the Transmission has anything to do with a bush failing on the Diff and Steering box?

If you like to do lots of 4 wheeling than the chance of component failure is higher than normal, but maybe there is other factors involved as well.

HG have you done any mods to the suspension?

Do you have pics of the offending bushes...

[sm=funnypostabove.gif] Got any pics of bush? When you pic up your truck, ask em for the old parts they replaced and post pics of the busted/cracked bushings. Actually that was a good idea Brett.

Michael,

Nobody has to suffer with sub-par crap that isn't functioning as per advertised abilities. They bill this thing as a tough, off-road vehicle capable of driving straight up a cliff, they didn't say except forthe front puunkin'. If it's still under warranty I'd see the General Manager and say, "Look, we can do this two ways. Either replace it with something that doesn't break for X thousand dollars or I'll bring it back everytime it breaksand you can keep replacing the part forever whichwill cost you 3 times as much" They'll do the math and wise up if you stand your ground. You know that you have rights under the law for recurring problems and the dealer MUST deal with you under the law to fix the problem to your satisfaction. Each state has it's own lemon law and arbitration is always warranted in such cases but you do have the right to have it fixed PROPERLY! Demand your rights!

"That's all I have to say 'bout that."
