Common or not it happened to me. I'm sure every Hummer specialist is not an expert. Oh well, all fixed. Thanks for your input.

You have no clue as to what "fixed" it!

I've been running service departments for almost 30years at different auto repair facilities and I have seen it all. I have worked with hundreds of technicians over the years, and I have yet to find 1 that is correct at diagnosis 100% of the time.

For example the tech says cyl head needs replaced. I contact the customer to get approval and get the new cyl head for the tech to install.

Tech installs the new cyl head and rechecks, code returns, now the tech says it needs new plugs, and that doesn't work. Then it needs new coils, and that doesn't work. Then it needs new injectors, which repaired the vehicle and the code doesn't return.

Bottom line, I charge the customer for only what fixes the vehicle, and eventually I send the tech packing due to incompetence!

In your case, you only see on receipt that they replaced the cyl head, however they ONLY charged you for the cyl head, but installed more parts at no charge to you, to fix it properly. Happens all the time, that is why I always recommend getting a second opinion.

Allright guys. This was simply put to let others know they are not alone in the mystery of the problem. Two dealers, two responses, somebody fixed it. Was told the same thing by both dealers. Whatever IT was, it can be taken care of. Thanks for all the input.

Today I stopped and got CRC throttle body cleaner and CRC air sensor cleaner. Doing the cleansing on those two items is on my weekend chore list. I have another issue that I'll start a new thread on.
Yes, you can certainly rule out the cyl. head ("sticky" injector instead). Great choice on the tb & maf cleaner. Take your time and enjoy a few beers during your "chore", your rig is gonna like it when your done.
