Thanks for all the feedback. It's been very helpful. Since it sounds more like a syncro's issue, I went ahead and ordered a transmission with 21k on it out of a 2004 4x4 colorado and I ordered a new clutch kit and trans mount from rock auto, so it looks like I'm going to have a busy weekend. lol. If anyone has any insight on a tranny/clutch swap, that would be greatly appreciated. The manual on Schwarttzy's site seems pretty detailed so I think I will be in good shape.

New clutch kit and new transmissions seems to have resolved my issues. One weekend and $1k later, she's shifting as smooth as butter. I'm still getting a clunk in my driveline when engaging the clutch. Sounds like there's some slack in the transfer case or differential.

FYI - I put a transmission out of a wrecked Colorado with only 21k on it. I also replaced the clutch & slave cylinder. Shifts smooth now.

Trans 21k - $600

Clutch kit - $350

Trans mount - $30

I realize that this post is from July so it's consequently a little stale, but wanted to mention that the first place to check for a driveline "clunk" would be the universal joints. Hopefully that's the source of your noise because universals are an easy fix.

Finally, let us know if the Colorado transmission swap was one-for-one or if there were differences.

Yeah I believe the clunk is coming from the universal joint or the transfer case. The transmission out of a 4x4 Colorado was the exactly same transmission and fit perfectly. I think it took me and my buddy about 10hrs to do the swap but that also includes installing a new clutch and replacing the trans fluid and the transfer case fluid. The hardest part was getting to the bolts on the top of the transmission that bolt it to the engine.
