I think you're confused, because none of this is correct.

Alpha "Off-road Package":
Off-Road Suspension Package (fully locking electronic rear differential,
4.03:1 2-speed transfer case, 33-in. LT285/75R16C on-road/off-road tires)
Perhaps you should read this brochure again, because it clearly shows what comes with the alpha. Nowhere does it state that the adventure package is standard.

Without getting into the specifics:

Adventure package = bigger tires, different transfer case, and a beefier suspension.

Alpha = V8 engine

With that said, you can have an alpha that doesn't have the adventure package and you can have the adventure package and not have an alpha.

On a side note, there is an "alpha" that has the adventure package standard, but it's not called an alpha, it is called the championship edition.

Your reading comprehension skills are severely lacking.

There was no Adventure package for the Alpha, period, end of discussion.

The Adventure "package" was a trim level for the base H3 (5 banger), just like the Alpha was a trim level that automatically included the V-8.

The Stereo upgrades that came as part of the Adventure Package were STANDARD in the Alpha trim level. The locking differential, tires and transfer case upgrades that came with the Adventure package, were obtained in in the Alpha by purchasing the Off-Road package.

Now I'm even more confused:

1. The 2008 Hummer sales brochure Foxbat sent also has the 265's for the Alpha
2. Did the alpha always come with a rear diff lock? Even without the off road package?
3. Is there a way to know if a certain Alpha came originally with the offroad package or not? Is it reflected in the VIN? I know that for Jeeps the trim level and some additional featres have a specific digit in the VIN.
4. Still looking for Hummer / GM documentation on the 285's option

Thank you

Go to the 7th page of the brochure I linked. The 285's option is on that page under options and the off road package.

If you have an Alpha and it has the off road package, you will have the locking differential button next to the "passenger air bag" indicator, to the right of the 4 up and 4dn lock buttons.

All Alphas had limited slip rear differentials, the locking rear differential in the off road package, was not standard with Alphas.

265's were standard in the 2008 Alphas unless you got the off road package, then you got 285's.

You can also verify the off road package in an Alpha by the RPO code in the glove box. I don't recall what the RPO code is off hand, perhaps someone else can help with that.

In general,
Base will have cloth seats and black door handles and mirrors. 32" tires
Lux. will have leather seats and chrome handles and mirrors, & Monsoon radio, 32" tires

Adventure/Offroad will have lockers, 33" tires, 4:1 tcase. Look for a locker button(s) all the way to the right of the 4x4 control buttons. There will be 2 buttons on the right hand side instead of 1.

You could get either the base by itself or with the addition of the Adventure/Offroad.
Same with the Lux, it could be ordered with or without the Adventure/Offroad package also.
Alpha just indicates the H3 has a V8 and may or may not have the Offroad package.

Hope this helps!

So, if for the Alpha you can only decide on the off road package and not the trim, how come there are Alphas with and without a sunroof?

I'm looknig at one that has leather seats, does not have a sunroof, no back camera, not sure about a diff lock. It does has chrome door handels, side mirrors and chrome with handels on the hood.

How do I know if it has the off road package or not?

This is the best picture I have:

Foxbat - thanx, I saw the 285 option in the sales brochure.

The sunroof and backup camera were not part of a 'trim package'.....they were an option that could be added to a 'trim package'.

You need to look in the center of the dash, above the radio, where the 4x4 control buttons are.
On the left there will be the usual 3 buttons, 4wd, 4 high & 4 low.
On the right will be one or two buttons. If you have 2 buttons, then you have the Offroad package.
If there is only one button, then you do not.

Oh no....

He faxed me the registration papaers, the tires are: 265/75/16. This is the original size the truck came with from the dealer.
Does this mean for certain that:

a. there is no real diff lock
b. there is no off road package?

Thanks

Forget about tire size!! If you want to determine if you have rear diff lock/off road package, re-read Bunger's post above!
