Default Looking at H's which one to buy

03 with 128k miles. Decent shape new wheels with BFG AT.
16,000

06 with 60k miles. Excellent stock shape 25,600

08 with 93k miles decent used shape loaded gray with sedona, power boards, nav etc. but has 22's really worried about MPG can live with 11 to 12 not 8...
31,700

Leaning towards the 08 but that is alot of money for a 9 year old truck that is not perfect.

Any thoughts that may help this crazy decision...

If money wouldn't be an issue I will choose like this
08
06
03

If money is in a tight budget then like this
06
08
03

As you see the 03 is always at the end ...
With a 03/123k you will spend same money trying to fix stuff

Did you test drive each . The 08 drives very different than 03 or even 06

About the gas ... Like someone told me a few years ago
If younare worry about car consumption dont buy a hummer
In city you will get hardly a 10.5 mpg .
Not bad considering the beast u driving and the safety it offers to u and family

Good luck

I've driven the 03 and the 08, 10.5 mph is fine its that fine line of getting into the single digits that would drive me a bit crazy.

Here is the 08

2008 *HUMMER* *H2* *Adventure 4x4 loaded-EZ LOW% FINANCING!!!* SUV *4wd*

Here is the 06

2006 Hummer H2- 4WD, Leather Interior, ONLY 60K Miles!

I LOVE the newness of the 06 its really clean. The 08 looks like a 93k vehicle that was taken care of OK but not babied. Just seems like a lot of money for it.

Thank on the 03 I guess I wasn't thinking of it that way. I was more worried about the overall wear door panels, hood faded and chipped etc. Overall a nice used truck and taken care of but older and shows it in places.

This was helpful. I knew nothing about Hummers when I bought mine. I think 05-07 is a great sweet spot. MPGs are decent, no mechanical issues. Plus the higher up in year you go, the fewer Hummers you have to choose from.

I bought an 05, like it a lot.

I'd want to see the inside of the 08 before going with it.
A lot of the 08/09s have beat up interiors. I don't know why, but people love to destroy the air vents. The 06 really does look clean.

The 6 speed w/ more power is a nice upgrade. The MPGs are higher vs the 4 speed w/ the 6.0. I get 14 to 15 mpg mixed driving if I keep my foot out of it. The 08/09s also have improved safety features & the internals are night & day better than the first gen. I love both versions of the H2, but the 2nd gen feels much more premium. I owned an 03 before & currently have an 09, so I feel like I can say that the changes are significant. I loved my 03, but steer clear. Even into the 2004 models, they upgraded a lot of the supporting portions of the frame & identified a few weak spots. I'd only consider another 03 if it was 100% offroad & I was doing a total overhaul on everything.

08/09 models are rarer & command a higher price. $33k-$34k is about average for the mileage. The prices on these keep going up & up.I don't think that they are asking too much.

For me it has to be the 08. I opted for an 09 myself so probably biased, but my friends 05 seems sluggish to me and forever changing gears. I know i have a slightly larger engine/output, but i think it's the gearing that feels the most different. Also prefer the newer interior. Mine is a low miler, but doesn't feel like it's 8-9years old. One thing's for sure, whatever you end up with, you'll love it!

Word of advice (contrary to my above point), sometimes it's worth going with the older/higher mileage one IF (and that's a big IF) it's been maintained properly. If someone's already done the large cost replacements/maintenance, well that might be the better approach than going for the slightly newer/lower miler, if you'll have those bills to come!

I paid 44k for my 08 with 46k on it. It was in very good shape and I still put in $2500 to make it perfect. Some stuff was cosmetic like undercoating and putting line X on my cargo cover

Thanks everyone, you all bring up good points!! If the 06 wasn't so clean it would be an easy choice. The 08 is in good used shape but is going to need some reconditioning which seems silly for this price range and age of vehicle.

I does have a couple of vents with problems, the uppper upper dash is cracked (I think its $108 for a new one) needs a new horn button, scratches on some trim. Sunroof is a bit loose.

On the outside the chrome door handles have some pitting as do the wheels. There are scratches etc. I used to detail cars and good detail\restore would do it wonders. Drives amazing, the older ones drive awesome but the 08 feels like a great balance.

I know Gas mileage is not a big part of this but really there is a point...if Hummers got 1mpg people probably wouldn't drive them as much

I do alot of my own work and have been modding LSX cars since they were LT1's (Meant to be funny)

Let me ask you these two questions for you all that have been watching the market and know these trucks. On the 2008.

- If I keep it under 150k miles over the next 5 years do you think it will still be in the Mid 20's on value? This is the big pull on the 06 I could have it 5 years and it still wouldn't have a 100k on it. I switch out cars every 3 or so years and I'm afraid of this one.

- With that wheel setup running properly and driving right (I got 12 mph combined in a modified\stall Trailblazer SS) is 10 to 11 city 13 to 14 highway what I should expect?

If this is the case then I think the 2008 is going to the truck I drive home Saturday. Look forward to modding it and being a member of this forum, I've been reading through posts researching and you guys are great!

The 08-09 trucks are more desirable due to the 6.2 and 6 speed trans so even if you have much more miles on the 08 you should fetch at least same price as the lower milaged 06. I saw an 08 on ebay with 129k miles and the highest bidder was 34k but found out from seller his reserve was 35k. I get around 12mpg highway and prob 10 in city.
