Default Locking Fuel Door

Hello all,

I just bought a set of fuel doors from hummerpartsclub (HPC) and I have no idea how to modify it to work. I noticed a few of you guys have the doors, maybe from predator or some other units. But I've run into a few problems and was wondering if you guys can help me tackle them.

1. The screws they give me will not work as the clips behind the factory cone are not big enough for the bolts to go through. So I resorted to using the factory screws instead which works fine.
2. However, after installing, I find that I cannot unlock/lock smoothly nor does it go all the way as there is no gap between the cone and the door for the locking mechanism to move up and down.

So... did you guys modify and shave off the cone so there is enough room for the lock to move freely? I see no other options and the return policy is not user friendly on HPC. I can take photos to show where I am having trouble if you guys do not know what I am talking about.

Mine are from HummerDan. I had to gring the locking arm down (thinner) so tree was room for it. Not sure whose door HPS sells.

From Dave over at HPC "You have to install the fuel doors in the open position. Try that and let me know. All of the fuel doors are the same and we have never had a fitment issue.""You have to remove the factory cone and then install it to the fuel door… then reinstall the assembly. Yes it does go over the factory plastic and lanyard"

Heres a link to what I bought: Hummer Parts and Accessories: HPC Hummer H1 Billet Black Locking Fuel Door Set *** Free Shipping ***

I'll have to take pictures for you to show you how big the locking arm is compared to how much room I have between the cone and the door. I thought this was going to be a simple mod lol.

Alright, so I just got finish installing both fuel doors. The main door went on fine without any modification using factory screws. The billet ones they sent with the door will not work as I described above.

However, the AUX door cause some headache. What I did was shave off the area where the lock arm needs to move on the cone. It was easier for me to trim the hard plastic than the metal arm so I went that route. It leaves a gash and opens up the inside the door to the elements from underneath the truck, but nothing of concerns to me since it covers the front. This is doors from HPC and unlike what their product details said about the keys, the keys are NOT alike. I got a key labeled "1006" and one for "1007". Aux and main door respectively. I'll have to talk to their customer service to get the same keys probably.

The door itself looks and works awesome but the factory lanyard gets in the way and not a lot of room to move around to snap off and on the door, but I'll trade that over someone dumping urine in my tank.
