Default laptop battery length?

How long does a laptop battery genreally last on a full charge? I charge this thing for 24 hours turn it on and it says battery strength 100% time left 1 hour 45 minutes. Is that normal? Seems like 1hr 45m is kinda short for a fully charged battery.

if it's brand new the battery will get better after a few complete cycles. if you keep it plugged in and never let the battery get close to empty, it will never hold a full charge. or, it may catch fire and burn your new laptop to cinders . . . . . .

It depends all upon how you have your power management set. There is CPU speed, display brightness, hard drive suspension, power management on your different ports, etc.

Your laptop should be pre-configured for low power consumption options. Most laptop manufacturers have their own software that manage power. Power to the USB ports can be turned off when not plugged into the wall, power to the network jack, the drives can be set to turn themselves off after a certain amount of time not being used, etc. 2 hours is average, so what you are getting now is normal. They sell extended batteries and/or 2nd batteries for most laptops that snap on the bottom that usually allow you to use them for 4 to 5 hours.

Also, if you are using wireless internet, that sucks up most of the power, especially if you are on the internet the entire time.

What kind of laptop did you get Mike? I just got a Toshiba and have about the same battery life as yours. You can leave it pluged in, but let the battery drain once or twice a month. This helps keep the battery at a full charge state, and it keeps the computer tracking your battery life correctly.
