Default K&N Air Intake w/Heat Shield - Install Question

Just installed K&N 63 Series Aircharger... I noticed some gaps where the Air filter connects through the heat shield. I also noticed one towards the front of the heat shield and the inside of the engine. Is this normal. I was under the impression that this was going have a tight seal all around the heat shield. Is this normal? Do these gaps take away from the performance? Thanks!

Yep, your observations are completely normal, that is why I refer to the open systems as a "warm air intake".

Closed systems rule.

i have gaps around mine and was wondering the same thing when i first installed it. it hasn't seemed to make a negative intact. and im assuming that the gap is to allow for engine movement since the airbox is mounted to the body and the intake to the engine.
