Default Modified 2007 Volant Intake

It's been in the back of my mind ever since a member made a comment about my Volant CAI. Something along the lines of that for $99 it was a good deal, but the resonator is still there, which still makes it pretty restrictive. So, after many trips to various stores trying to find what I needed, in my mind at least, no more resonator.

Painted with ceramic high temp dupli color. In hindsight I should have used flat, not semi gloss. Hole drilled and grommet installed.

Total cost was under $35. Pipe-$15 Paint-$5 Grommet/adapter kit-$8 Crankcase vent hose-$4 It was a fun little project, so unless it screws something up, which I don't think it will, it was worth doing.

The only thing I think I may need to do is completely paint the whole thing. The 1" left unpainted was to not increase the OD (outside diameter) because it was a tight fit on the throttle body side as it was. Should I be concerned about any corrosion?
Any suggestion, constructive criticism?

You didn't need high heat paint, but that's fairly irrelevant. I would definitely paint the entire pipe, corrosion will be an issue. Get rid of the stock accordian coupler at the TB and use a 3.5" silicone coupler.

Well, I haven't driven too much, maybe 50 miles. Driving from Houston to Fort Worth Friday so I'll see. However, I followed Doc's advise and painted it all inside and out.
Although not driven much, I swear, without any data to back it, it feels quicker. And that is not a word I've ever used to describe it. The first go out of my neighborhood I drove normally and thought to myself, "Is it in my head, or is this thing quicker?" I gave it a push a couple more times on streets and highway and like I said, I swear it's got a bit more. It could be in my head, but I went in convinced there would be no difference.
It does seem to be a little louder when I get into it, which I expected, but not bad at all.
Overall, glad I did it.

Intakes don't throw codes, incorrect installation of intakes can.

The resonator box is the biggest power sucker part of the stock intake, that's why I could never understand why some intake makers leave that hunk o terd in the system. Your mod to the volant intake probably did more than the rest of their whole sytem.

Like I said, nice job, good way to get around that soft spot they left on the table when they developed it!

that looks real clean.. i think i might do that to mine now!

but my question is how the hell do you keep your engine so clean.. mine has mud splashes all over it from muddin.

If you look close there is a lot of dust in there, I use the power washer on mine to knock the dirt out.

heres a pic of my volant cai for my 2006, they took the resonator out for the 2006 why would they leave it in on 2007 models? Good job on the fix up. hows the difference in sound?
