Default Just broke down north of Richmond VA (Flywheel Broke)

I don't suppose anyone is near Richmond VA? My buddy is driving my H1 back to NH and just broke down at a rest stop in Ladysmith, VA. The truck won't move, he can turn the flywheel by hand easily with just a finger. It's not connected to the motor anymore. Any ideas? It's a 96 wagon 6.5L turbo. I can use my AAA to get 200 miles north closer to home, but will still not be home.

Matt there are a number of N. VA H1 owners but the ones I know are just leaving Moab UT and won't be back for a few days. You might check on Humvee.net and see if there are any locals you can contact.

are you sure?. a flywheel free turning would need to break6-8 bolts out of the crankshaft. then it would be hanging on the tranny input shaft/chutch or torque converter. surely it would drag on something. or bang on the crankshaft, its a tight fit in there.
how did he get to the flywheel?

It's at a garage now in NH. What I call the flywheel (or maybe flexplate) whichever is the part that engages to the starter, turns freely with just a finger. The shield is off by the starter so that is how we tested it. I had it hauled home on a flatbed. The garage will look into it more later this week.

Here is a video I took of the free spinning flywheel. We haven't pulled it all apart yet to see what happened but obviously something is wrong here...

wow, still a mystery. even IF all the bolts broke off at once,WHERE ARE THEY? not rattling around, jambing up somewhere between the fly and torq converter? not stopping the fly ?
its got to be rare.

We took the H1 Transmission down and found this (see video):

I'm guessing the bellhousing got loose and vibrated until it cracked, and being loose caused the flywheel to crack. How it got loose? I don't know...

i'd be looking at the support at the read end of tranny/transfer case.could that stress the b h ?? there a lot "hanging" on the bellhousing huh.
if the engine mount is stiff, the tranny weight might be the trouble and need to be avoided after the bh/wheel is fixed.

just thinking pout loud.
