Jeep versus Hummer Question???

RE: Jeep versus Hummer Question???
I learned to drive when I was 8........in the 1960s (dated to prevent the inevitable "wow you are old [sm=icon_blah.gif]" stuff) in a 1953 ****** jeep. That thing was tiny, fun, and could do all of about 40 MPH down hill with a strong tail wind. My dad stuck it in 4x4 lo, I would let out the clutch and he would walk along behind me, then couple days later I started shifting a couple gears and I was gone. Loads of fun. Wish I had that thing today, like an off road golf cart w/ fold up windshield!!!
Had more gear levers than the one arm bandit section of a casino.

RE: Jeep versus Hummer Question???
yeah... too bad the Jeeps of yesterday got ruined by the yuppie **** of today...
Jeepsjust are not used for what they were designed for... they are a status symbol so the losers can say.. I have a Jeep... I can go anywhere... while the wheelers don;t say anything.. and do go everywhere...
reminds me of that Jeep Jerkoff at Wharton that day... he stood around talking **** about how a Hummer got stuck... when he never even went through it.... and the Jeep winching me out admitted he tried it and got stuck 3 times in his rubi...

RE: Jeep versus Hummer Question???
Back in Desert Shield/Storm we found an old M151 JeepThat thing was a blast to drive around, never did get it stuck over there and the best thing was that I didn't even have to lock it. Unless you had been trained on it you didn't know that the START button was under the clutch pedal and a flip switch on the dash
We snuck it back inside of a container (it pays to be transportation sometimes) and our post commander used it after that.

RE: Jeep versus Hummer Question???
All of it goes back to the old Apples/Oranges debate. You can't compare a 2,000 pound vehicle with an 84inch wheelbase to a 5,000 Lb H3. Just like you can't compare an H3 to an M998 (HUMVEE). All vehicles being compared MUST be in the same class. If you want to compare the H3 to a Jeep product it would have to be Commander or Grand Cherokee. Go up another vehicle class to compare the H2, Jeep doesn't have that vehicle class, and go up to a 2 ton truck to compare the H1. Apples to Apples.
