Default Intermittent fault

Hi, I have just introduced myself in the new members forum.
I have just returned from my 'holiday of a lifetime' in Doha, Qatar, visiting my daughter and son-in-law.
He is the proud owner of a H3, with which he took me and my wife for a trip into the desert.
Unfortunately, an intermittent fault occurred when he tried to get up some sand dunes and he wasn't very impressed.
The fault seems to occur when going over some uneven surfaces and the vehicle seems vibrate excessively and the engine has to be turned off, left for a period to sort itself out, then turned on again, sometimes repeatedly, until it resumes normal driving.
He has had it back to the dealer a couple of times. The first time they replaced a part, but that obviously didn't work. The second time they plugged into the computer and told him 'no fault was found'.
I just wondered if anyone on the forum could cast any light on what the cause may be?
Thanks in anticipation.

Welcome.

When driving on sand dunes, biggest mistake made is to not turn off the StabiliTrack and Traction Control whiile in high lock. When that is left on, you will experience wheel slip/spin, brake, slip, brakes, spin, brake.... which can actually cause the vehicle to shudder as it tries to move. Have no idea what SIL was doing, but might want to ask him if he knows how to set his 3 for the dunes.

When you say fault? Was a message displayed on the dash board?

Thanks Doc Olds. I have sent your advice to my SIL and waiting for his reply and observations.
