Well my cousin traded in his 07 I-5 for the new alpha last week. Well, now he really wants his I-5 back now. He says he can't stand the constant drumming of the V-8 humming inside. I guess he means there is alot of interior noise. Plus he also said for the extra money, he doesn't feel the major difference. Ofcourse more power for towing but everyday driving isn't worth it. Like i said before, i'm happy with my I-5!!!

 

When I get out of the H1s and into the H3 Alpha I feel like I am driving a sports car. I drove the I5 and thought the difference was dramatic. The H3 Alpha also seemed amazingly quiet. ( that is compared to my 6.5Td and Duramax ) I guess it is all perspective but I am very impressed with the H3 Alpha.

 

I test drove the H3 alpha .I think that my 05 seems to ride smoother.It could be thet i have 35" bfg a/t.vs the brigestone 33".The enginewas more powerful than the I-5 on the freeway and seems to move the truck very nicely.My 05 is YELLO so I don't think I will be trading it in(I'M KEEPING IT FOR MY SON.HE'S 2 NOW).I am going to wait for theOPEN AIRH3 ALPHA due out summer 08.oooOOOHH!!I can't wait.

 

The Alpha is much quieter inside the cab versus the 3.5L, hands down. Guess I would need to hear the 3.7L to accurately compare

 

Your friend is nuts if he thinks the I5 is quieter than the Alpha! The I5 sounds as if it's straining in comparison to the Alpha going the same speed. The I5 is alsogeared lower so the RPMs are higher as well.

 

I had the 3.5 in our 06 and now we have the 3.7 in both of ours. I honestly can't tell that big of a difference between them, even when I test drove them. I don't anything about how the Alpha is, but I had the 5.3 in my Silverado and it wasn't bad inside. Can't be that big of a difference in cabin noise I wouldn't think.

 

DIBS! Let your cousin know I'll do an even swap - his Alpha for my 07 I5. I'll even throw in the 16,000 miles it has experienced for free! [/align]

That's the same reason I traded in my LS7 powered H3...too much rumble (power) for me...

 

I test drove an Alpha twice now and rented a 3.7 for a week. From my experience the Alpha was considerably better. Not taking anything away from the 3.7, because it was a blast! But the Alpha seemed more powerful, smoother and more stout than the 3.7

This is from a new hummer owner, comparing both straight up.I haven't driven a hummer before this so this is a fresh perspective.

Believe me, I am a self admitted tightwad soif I thought the 3.7 was close to the alpha, I would get it and save the $$!
