hi guys I have an 07 h3 5 cyl and I cleaned the throttle body.now the idle is playing up.taking longer to drop down and idles at about 2500rpm in neutral after a drive.all I did was take it off the car and clean with carby/throttle body cleaner.any ideas? ive reset the battery for a few hours.would re setting it over night help?thanks

 

There is no such thing as resetting the battery?

Couple basic things to know about fly by wire TBs. 1) Make sure the electrical connector is on straight and snapped fully in place. 2) After cleaning a TB, you have to start the motor, but DO NOT TOUCH THE ACCELERATOR for at least 3-4 minutes while the PCM learns and adjusts the throttle position. 3) Use ONLY TB Cleaner. 4) If you did not clean it properly, residue from the crud you were attempting to clean off can get in the throttle plate hinge pin area and degrade its performance because it is boogered up (ie it will not move freely enough for the fly by wire control to work properly).

Disconnect the electrical from the TB, wait a few minutes, reconnect it, start the motor and follow #1 above. If you do not let #1 above complete the process, or #4 occurred, you end up with your issue.

 

thanks for the reply, I tried the process of disconnecting the electrical plug from the throttle body and leaving it off for 5 mins.( is the ignition meant to be on or off during this process?) then I plugged it back in and turned the car on and let it idle for 5mins without touching a thing.then I turned the engine off( was I meant to leave it on?) and started it up again.it still idles high :-( maybe I have done it wrong? should I try and take it apart again and clean it once more and follow ur steps again?thanks for ur help doc I appreciate it

ok so I took the battery off and done the whole procedure again. I cleaned the throttle body and put it all back together,turned it on and let it idle for at least 5mins.( I heard an electric motor make a noise after about 4mins?) and went for a drive.still has the same issue :-( . now the only thing I can think of is im using carby cleaner? would that make a difference? could it be causing the flap to stick or something like that? should I go buy a throttle body cleaner and re do it again?

 

It worked before you cleaned it right? If so did you move something out of place?
Did you get the breather tube reconnected off the engine to air intake?

it was fine before cleaning. throttle body was very dirty.have put everything back to how I took it off. only thing I can think of is im doing the relearn wrong or its because I used carby cleaner instead of throttle body cleaner

 

update.went and bought throttle body cleaner.cleaned it again.took both battery terminals off for the 30mins. turned it one.let it idle for 10mins. took it for a 20k drive.still doing the same thing.idels high while driving.put it in neutral and the idle sits at around 2200rpm then comes down to normal :-(

 

Some throttle body's have a coating on the inside and i am not sure if our hummers do but the coating is there to allow easy movement of the actual throttle body butterfly. If this coating is removed you have the classic symptoms of your throttle sticking. That is why it is recommended to to the correct cleaner for the job.

 

Carb cleaner is too strong of a cleaner and is made for carbs to clean fuel deposits. Throttle bodies meter the air intake and the only deposits would be the crankcase fumes that are recycled back to the crankcase. Use only THROTTLE BODY CLEANER and Mass airflow cleaner for the airflow meter.
