I have a 2003 Hummer H2. It is completely dead. No interior lights nothing. brand new battery installed. Power at fuse box and alternator. No power to either terminal at the starter Solenoid. Any ideas? I am pretty sure the positive cable runs directly to the solenoid?
There is some kind of negative ground disconnect installed in my 2003 Hummer H2. It is in the drivers side front wheel well. When I was washing my Hummer the sprayer turned it off. I had no power. Key was stuck in the ignition. Bought a new battery. Then I checked for ground and had none. Turned the switch and it fired right up. 8 wasted hours! Picture included,
It's called a battery disconnect switch LOL. Never knew I had one. i just bought the Hummer around a month ago! I am hoping at the least I can save someone some trouble in the future. Thanks!
That is not stock.... Someone added that. Actually a good security measure and good if you do not drive your H2 regularly. If it sits for a month the battery will likely go dead in these (as well as many other newer cars). Of course you have to reset everything when you kill it this way like radio stations, etc. Nowadays a better idea is a battery tender for vehicles not used much.
Yep! It was custom. The original owner stored it for a while. I found out by disconnecting the negative cable and running a tester from the positive to the disconnected cable and saw there was no reading. Then I Checked continuity from one side of the shutoff switch to the other and noticed there was no continuity. Then looked underneath and saw the switch! LOL What a nightmare.
You should put a rubber boot around it to deny water intrusion in it. Actually that area it was installed was not the best of places I can think of. Tto make a neat install would be to put two cables to a junction box with a lid and switch inside - kinda like the orange jumper box thats on the engine but make it a black color. OR could be a water proof switch as well. Good theft deterent tho..
