I work on a Dairy and I live about 5 miles away from the desert.I wanted a 4x4 that can pull other trucks out of the mud when it rains because of issue in the past and something with a winch and can haul trailers but also be a fun vehicle for the weekends. I was thinking about getting a used H1 and up grading the engine with a cummins or duramax with 2/4wd transfer case and put some tool compartments on it. What do you guys think good idea or bad idea? my budget is about $50,000 total.

 

50,000 would maybe buy an early beater and pay for the Cummins conversion. A Duramax conversion costs a lot more. An H1 will definitely pull/winch stuck vehicles.

 

Only guys I know driving their H1's every day have duramax's in them.. 20 miles a gallon is hard to beat. I would try and find an H1 that has a swap already done with a cummins or a duramax and save some money.

 

I currently have a 94 H1 project that I'm on the fence about.
