Default H1 advice

I have been reading all I can from all the forums I can get. This forum seems to be the most active of all. I would like to buy, I'm thinking 94 to 96 H1. Restore frame up with Cummins conversion and trans. When I finish, I would like to make it my main ride. I only drive around 10,000 miles a year, most being within 100 miles of home. Not looking to do much off road. I have extensive building experience and equipment. Maintenance is not a problem. I just want to get some expert opinions from owners as to the reality of this. Don't want to make this kind of investment if most think this is a dumb idea!! I am retired and looking for a project and a vehicle I can drive a very long time.
Thank you
Jim

If you are handy with the tools it is a great idea.

That is what I was thinking. Bought me a 96 Wagon with 30000 miles on it. I have just finished the upgrade on the HVAC, and put Cepek shocks. Very happy with it so far.

I have a 97 soft top. Runs well but eventually will have to put cummins in.
My 2001 wagon has a duramax.
The cheaper alternative to the costly cummins upgrade, which is the tougher of the two, is a Penninsular 6.5 with intercooler. It will require 2 inch body lift.

The Cummins requires a lift also.

My 6.5T has never had the block changed. May last a while, but never know. I knew that when I bought it. Will drive it a while and see. I am really enjoying driving it so far. Was leaning toward the cummins when I change the engine.

Predator's website has a Cummins conversion page. It is my opinion that an older H1 is a better investment to restore with the Cummins, which many people believe was what the Humvee should have had in the first place since it is an industrial engine with strong main bearings and fewer parts to go wrong. (6cyl)
When my long-term resto is done on my 97 a Cummins 24 v will inhabit its engine bay.

Default 94 wagon

Not to thread jack but I have a 94 that is a nice base for one of these conversions.
I'm on the fence myself on which option to go with.
If I decide not to either I may let my H1 go to someone who will finish it.
