Default How many miles on tire with 40% tread?

I'm going to look at some 285/75/16 GOODYEAR WRANGLER ATS WITH 40% TREAD tomorrow. They have a D Load tire rating. If the tread looks good on them I can get them for $100. Good deal or not? Money's kind of tight right now and I picked up some aftermarket 16's so instead of using my taking the factory 265/75/16's (which only have around 10k miles left of them) off of my facoty wheels I can get the 285's for my aftermarkets and have a bigger tire.It sounds good on paper. Guess I'll have to see them to make sure they have enough tread to last me for a while. My question is how many miles do you think I can get out of a 285/75/16 with 40% tread? Good thing is I will have 2 sets of wheels and tires this way. I plan to get new 305/70's or 285/75's eventually, but think these would work fine through the winter. Thanks,T

Those pics are pretty dinky so it's hard to tell. If you NEED tires, for $100 why not ya know? But with 40% tread left, it's a gamble how long they will last and how deep of mud your gonna get thru. BUT, if money is tight, you cant beat $100. Put those on while you save up for 33's or 35's.

That's the plan. Isn't a 285/75/16 a 33 inch tire anyway? I'm hoping these will get me through the winter then sometime next summer I will get some 305/70's or a more meaty set of 285/75's. I will probably sell my factory wheels with the tires that are on them now so it would be nice to have a set of tires for the new rims. Not sure how much to ask for my factory wheels with Goodyear 265/75/16 (approx 10k miles left of them). Any takers? It will help fund my new tires! lol

$100 for a used set is a fair price. I would go for it.

Yes 285/75/16 is a 33. You can post a for-sale add on this forum, post a for-sale add in your signature so everytime somebody sees you post they'll see they are for sale, and you can post adds on craigslist. I actually know of somebody right now on club-hummer trying to find some stock wheels with tires on them.

You can fit 315/75/16's on these trucks.. a 305 is just a bigger 33 tho (just fyi)

Thanks for the advice guys. I went and looked at the tires today and they were a no go. They were more like 25% tread max. Definitely wouldn't have been worth mounting on the new wheels. My 265/75's have significantly more tread left so I'm just going to rough it out with them through the winter and buy bigger tires next summer unless something good pops up before then!

lol I feel ya; I'm getting new tires in a few weeks (end of sept) because I know I'm screwed once snowfall hits with my stockers.

Absolutely! Going with 285/75/16's. A GOOD set of 33's that are properly driven will go just as many places as 35's.

Butttt, with that being said, if I can kick this deal off in the next month where I'm buying another powerstroke, I mayyy just get 35's for the HUMMER and park it, only to come out for hunting/fishing/mudding etc.

I'll def be posting pics cuz I'm hopefully doing the snorkel and front/rear brushguard at the same time hehe.
