"How to" alternative iPod install for Monsoon radios
I'll put this question to Mediatronics and see what they say. The information I have from their Application guide is that the Class 2 PALs will work on any '03-'07 H2 or any '06-'09 H3. Depending on whether or not the vehicle has XM, a different installation harness will work - one harness connects to the radio and the other alternative is to the XM receiver. In the Corvette, the XM installation is far easier than the radio installation, but the Hummer may be easier to access the radio (I'm only guessing).

For those with the Monsoon system, if anyone would like to try one out, you can order, plug it in and test it, and if for any reason you are dissatisfied, you can return it for a full refund. Try it for a couple of weeks to make sure there isn't a battery drain issue.
Further, if there are any compatible Hummer owners in the Orange County, CA area (Mediatronics is in Irvine), they would like to have a volunteer allow Mediatronics to connect a PAL and some specialized equipment (I think a laptop with special software) for about an hour to positively determine that the PAL completely shuts down and will not cause a battery drain. They would also insure that the PAL did not "wake up" other devices on the Class 2 system that could possibly cause a battery drain issue. That owner could drive their vehicle to the Mediatronics location in Irvine, or if they are close enough they could send one of their techs to the owner's home to test it there.
I've found Mediatronics to be very receptive to test procedures to make sure that their products are completely compatible with any vehicles the PAL is designed for. Many aftermarket products often advertise they will work with a certain vehicle, but there is often insufficient testing to make sure. We have done very extensive testing in every year and configuration of C6 Corvettes, and we now have a very stable product that has become very popular.

You'll find my email address at the bottom. Any volunteers can email me and we can discuss the next step. My wife and I are leaving for Molokai, Hawaii next week and we'll be gone for about five weeks. But I'll have email and phone there if anyone needs to communicate.

I would also like to find an adapter that works for sure in my 08 Hummer H3. I have the monsoon 6 disc stereo without XM. I just found out the radio did not have xm which the dealership advertised the car as having. I'm now taking that up with the dealer to try and get some type of money back or something.
Hi folks,
I'm on the island of Molokai enjoying blue skies and warm weather while escaping from the Pacific Northwest winter. I'll be here until we return home on February 15th.
I can't do much for you right now regarding the auxiliary in harnesses because your Hummers require special wiring - your XM communication wire is on Pin 7 instead of Pin 15 like the Corvettes. I made up a few harnesses that my son in Portland is shipping for me while I'm gone, but they are all Corvette harnesses. So you'll have to wait until I return on February 15th. Please email me at ray@kawal.net after that.
As far as making your own, I'm happy to ship you a kit, but I really don't recommend it unless you are experts at soldering and already have one of the special crimp tools recommended on the website. The crimp tools themselves will cost you almost $40 bucks with shipping, so you aren't going to save much and you'll have headaches trying to build these. A couple of guys are trying the kits and they are already having problems and can't figure it out. Still, with that said, you are welcome to buy the kits.
If you want a PAL, you can order one on my Ordering Page and I can have Mediatronics direct ship one as soon as they get the circuit boards in that they are waiting for. If you order one, please email me so I can be sure they include the correct installation harness for the PAL. I'll need to know whether or not you have XM and the year of your Hummer.
I'll be checking the forum from time to time while we're over here.

Ok tell me what I need? I have an '07 H3 with the Monsoon single disc and no XM. All I want to do is be able to play my ipod through my radio.
And as far as kit vs cable, I can do what ever I need to. I have crimpers and I have been certified when it comes to soldering.
Thanks!

This is not your ordinary auto part store crimper, which is completely inadequate to make OEM quality terminal installations.
These OEM Delphi Micro 100 terminals are not made to be soldered. They are professionally crimped onto OEM body harnesses throughout your vehicle.
