i was out hunting and the ground was a bit wet and i started to slip, so i shifted to 4H and it went free wheel i braked shifted to reverse. still was free wheel. i can shift the stick but will not change gears and dash says im in reverse.. i turned engine off and cannot start now ... please any advice would be great

I don't know if this is at all similar, but an someone my dad knows once destroyed a fullsize transfer case in what may be a similar situation. He was stuck in 2WD with the rear wheels spinning and shifted into 4WD. The switch from 2WD to 4WD is meant to happen when all wheels are rolling at relatively the same speed. Like I said, that's a different situation and different truck, but if you were stuck and spinning only the front or rear and then switched to 4 lock, I can see how some damage may result. I would think (hope) since it's electronically controlled that the truck would be smart enough to prevent it, but I don't know. At any rate, I hope you didn't suffer anything major and get it home soon.

 

got out of the woods.. the next morning i crawled under and found that a stick had broken the shift linkage. the linkage is just a small piece of plastic, and in a very bad place if you take your hummer off road
