Default head scratching and tire kicking

Hey all - Just registered, and I am sure I will have many questions.

Currently I have a 05 GTO - "slightly" modified, putting out a "bit" over the 400 factory HP. LOL..... Do I really need a 170mph car if I never go over 70?

Anyway, it was an impulse buyI did at my 40th birthday, but now I really want to get back into something bigger than my 4 seat corvette. I have three kids, and the goat (O.K. really aHolden Monaro) is not a good family car, and you really can't haul anything larger than groceries. Golf clubs only fit in the front seat. and the mods make it quite noisy and a bit uncomfortable for passengers.

I was looking at a 4x4 silverado or avalanche, (Been a Suburban guy, and Wife has a 'burb)but then I saw my sister's new H3lux, and really liked it. A nice truck, smaller than a full size truck, loaded out, but at the same price a base Tahoe 2x4 is selling for. Win! Was a bit concerned with a full size truck and my office parking garage, airport parking (frequent traveler).... but need something to also commute to work in (about 20 miles each way), but I don't want to spend $60K on a 4x4 suburban LT.

Went by the dealer (Sewell Dallas - only one I think here) and was very impressed, but now really confused. Been reading some of the threads here, the old I5 vs. V8 discussions....(Sewell orders all their alphas loaded out - $$$) have some concerns with the power of the I5... usual noob questions.

But one thing is for certain. There was a base model, black, larger tires that raised up the vehicle about 1", really filled out the wheel wells better, and had the black powdercoated wheels, black brushgard, etc. THAT is the look I like. All that chrome is a bit over the topfor me. I think I might go for the H3Lux, in black, then have those tires and blackwheels put on. Not really liking the cloth seats.

Anyway, great forum here.....

BUT... We have someone that can help you with all of your Sewell questions.... I promise you.

Welcome and hope you stick around if your make the pruchase.

I have driven 06 and 07 H3s with the I5. I currently have an 08 H3 Alpha. To me there was a world of difference in power between the two. There are a lot of people on here completely satisfied with their I5s and some drive and wheel them pretty hard. After having the Aplha with the V8 not sure I could go back to the I5. JMO

Well, first welcome and I hope you find out what you are looking for.

I have the 3.7 and had the 3.5 in my last one. There is "alittle" improvement, but my 3.7 is not lacking in any power. It jumps up and gets down the road as well as anything else out there. (except for your Goat!) I have only had in the mud twice, but it had plenty of power for it. Granted a 5.3 is going to be drastic change. But overall I think the I5 will do everything just fine. Although you may want to consider the 5.3 if you have alot of big towing jobs planned just for the power. Otherwise, I just can't be convinced it's worth the price difference unless that's what you want

welcome to site

I have a H3 alpha and the v8 is awesome. As far as the I5 H3 I can't help you there. Again the H3 Alpha is a wonderful truck and I couldn't be happier with the choice I made. My family loves the Alpha as well. Now i must tell you if you search the H3 thread you will find that there are a lot of H3 owners that are very satisfied with the I5.

Again welcome to the site and be sure to keep us posted on you choice and of course post a pic or two when you get your H3

take care

I had the GTO as well, had to turn it in last year when the lease was up. Was sad to see it go, really.

I always had something for the wife and kids and myself to drive on the weekends. Just turned in an Envoy and bought a 2008 H3 like 2 weeks ago.

This thing has plenty of power to pass and do whatever you need. I have the 33's and cruise right down the road at 80 with no problem and it is comfortable to drive.

Of course, the Alpha would have lots more power and all, but the way I look at it is... if I wanted the massive power back I'd buy another car like the GTO, but I chose the Hummer for safety and well, because people think it's cool too.

You won't go wrong with the H3. If theirs are too loaded then either order one or find one somewhere else!

the way I see it right now, it is between a H3 or a larger vehicle like a Z71 truck. thoughts?

Had both. Really liked the Z71. Have the H3 Alpha now and it is a blast to drive. You don't get many chances to drive something that you love to get in but I really look forward to driving the H3.

Get the one you want, I drive the I-5 and don't have any problems with pickup and passing people.
