Hawaii hummer owners....MUST READ!!!
I just read an article in 4wheel off road magazine that mentions a new bill that's bieng introduced. This bill will make it ILLEGAL to modify any exhaust system from it's stock form. If a cop feels your exhaust is any louder than it was when it came off the factory line you will be given a fine and your ride will be impounded. Contact your congressmen and get this bill STOPPED!!!!!
Good luck guys!

That does suck. I don't care for loud exhaust either.. but I like better than stock and that usually equates to somewhat louder at least. Mo quiet, mo better in my book... as long as it performs well. But, I certainly don't have an issue with others having something with a little healthier note.
Looks like more of the knit pickers, trying to stiffle everyone elses way of life to appease themselves. Give 'em an inch, and they'll take foot. But, when you object to it, theres always someone who's thought about it way too much, and you'll be accused of being insensative to their needs.
Such is life in these United States .. or what's left of it. Pretty soon it will be illegal to be an American in America. LOL

Here is the current law in Colorado...the important part is in red.
42-4-225. Mufflers - prevention of noise.
(1) Every motor vehicle subject to registration and operated on a highway shall at all times be equipped with an adequate muffler in constant operation and properly maintained to prevent any excessive or unusual noise, and no such muffler or exhaust system shall be equipped with a cut-off, bypass, or similar device. No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the motor of such vehicle above that emitted by the muffler originally installed on the vehicle, and such original muffler shall comply with all of the requirements of this section.
I personally have never written anybody a citation for the violation, but have used it for probable cause to stop a vehicle that the drug task force wanted stopped. As for the mandatory towing that is bull$hit. The only way I can see them being able to articulate towing the vehicle is if it is some type of road hazard. If the vehicle is not moving and the exhaust is not operating, then you can no longer be in violation. However, if you were to attempt to leave the vehicle on scene then read on...
If your vehicle is not within equipment specifications law enforcement can forbid you from driving on the road, but if your vehicle is not a road hazard and you can arrange to have the vehicle towed then no problems. The typical way that law enforcement types articulate the towing of the vehicle is due to the fact that we are liable for the vehicle once we take some type of action against you. For instance, if you are arrested for DUI, and you are taken to jail, we are responsible for your vehicle once we take you into custody, so we have the vehicle towed to a secure lot so nothing happens to the vehicle or as in the case above you want to leave the vehicle on scene, the law enforcement officer could tow the vehicle, because once again he would be liable if something happened to you vehicle while it is sitting on the side of the road.
The bottom line is they can pass what ever law they want to mandate the towing of the vehicle and until somebody stands up and questions the rational behind the towing of the vehicle and wants to fork out the money to fight it in a court of law, they can do whatever they want.
