Default Having an issue with removing spare tire carrier

My spare tire carrier has a few spots where the powder coating has chipped and some rust has started. My plan is to have the carried freshly powder coated. I attempted to remove the arm that swings out with the tire on it. I removed the tire, wiring and set screw on the cylinder the arm sits it. The arm will not come off no matter what I do?? I pulled up on it while moving the arm back and forth, tried a floor jack with with a piece of wood, pry bar, beating it with a rubber mallet?? I'm at a loss?? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

You need to un-bolt the assembly from the bumper. Its 2 bolts the 'tow hook' assembly is part of it.

mine had the 2 bolts holding the tow hook/carrier and 2 more bolts under the tow hook. Then I had to rock the hell out of it to break it free.

@MVR155

I think you are talking about separating the tire carrier into 2 pieces, not what the others have commented on, right?

You need to separate it at the grease knuckle. So that when you powder it, there is no grease in it, and you do each half separately.

Unfortunately I do not know the answer. It may be pressed it. I presume you checked for any hidden set screws on the back of the half that bolts to the bumper?

It should not be that difficult, right? There must be a trick to separating the knuckle ....

I need to re-powder mine also. Please post here when you have an answer to the problem. Thanks.

I tried everything to separate mine at the hinge and besides cutting it in half with a friggin torch-it wasn't happening.
