Hard wiring radar detector and gps
Just got an 08 h3 last week and it does not have a owners manual in it(ording one off ebay) Is there a fuse box inside the truck or only in the engine comparement? i have the kits to hardwire my stuff using a fuse socket in a fuse box. thanks
There is only one fuse box and it's located under hood, forward of the battery. Be careful removing the cover, as many people, (including myself), have broken the release tabs. Inside, you probably have 4 unused fuse holders (these are for accessories such as optional roof, and grill mounted lights). One of these will operate with the ignition key in on/run. This is the one I hooked my GPS up to. You'll need to use a multimeter to test for the correct one. The others have constant power. I ran my wire thru the firewall, thru the grommet that is for the hood latch release cable.
Here's an advance copy '08 owner's manual for you

Is there any power at the mirror/OnStar system? That's how I wired my CTS. Cool having the radar next to the mirror where the windshield is tinted and you can't see the detector from the outside.

Be careful with hardwiring the GPS. Many of them do not operate on 12 vdc. They have a voltage reducing circuit built into the cigar plug which drops the dc down.
My Garmin runs on 5 vdc. If I direct wired it, it would fry.
I got around that by direct wiring a cigar receptacle up under the dash and plugging in the Garmin cigar plug into it. The whole thing is tucked up hidden out of the way.
