Default H3T purchase...opinions

Hey guys, looking for some input. I would like to by an H3T but have several questions. I really like the Alpha model for the V8, 4 to 1 t-case and front and rear lockers. Trouble is, they are few and far between. When one becomes available, they are usually pretty expensive (but worth it ). Would it be easier to look for a 5 cyl. model and add the lockers
( don't know if the t-case could be modded to a lower ratio). Does the 5 cylinder move the truck ok, or is it underpowered? These base models seem to be more available and less expensive. What do you guys think?
Thanks in advance.

I think the conventional wisdom is to buy what you want up front even if it takes more time to find and costs more. You will likey have more in aftermarket parts than it would cost to buy it factory. The Adventure/Offroad Pkg really don't seem to add much to the cost in the used market. As far as the I5 power. I have had an H3 with the 3.5, 3.7 and now have the 5.3. They were all fine for me. I did do the PCMforless tune along with a Magnaflow exhaust, Airdoc intake and put the Alpha intake tube on the airbox on the 3.7. Those mods greatly increased the drivability. Search the dealerships online and find what you really want even if you have to travel a few hours. You will likely not reget it.

Thanks for the replies. I am looking now for the best truck that I can find. Hopefully it will have the options I desire.

There are actually more of them for sale than you think. Try to use more than one search. Might try, craigslist, cars.com, autotrader.com,etc. I'd stay away from ebay for purchasing a vehicle (parts are OK there).

Most of the people/dealers selling them don't know what they have. I have noticed that some list an H3T with a 3.7L but the pix show an Alpha. Others don't know what an Adventure/OffRoad is and by looking thru the pix of the dash/radio area you can see it is an Adventure/OffRoad with the locker buttons!
