Hi All...

Wondering if anyone has a "click" in their H3 steering wheel when they turn (in my case, its at the same spot when I turn left). The sound comes from the INSIDE of the car, right on the top of the wheel assembly (it sounds like plastic on plastic).

I also have a "clunk" noise coming from my steering shaft...I found a TSB No: 07-02-35-006E DEC 08, Clunk/ Knock in Steering Wheel, for this. I took it to the dealer, they charged 0.5 labour to inspect (rip off!) and said the shafts needed to be replaced for about $400 if I wanted the knock to stop...but it wasn't bad enough to reccomend replacing. So I didn't.

But I'd like to at least fix the click noise internally...thats much more noticeable and really annoying! Any advice would be appreciated!

 

We've now replaced gf's and mine in an 06&07 h3.
Lower intermediate shaft upper lower (mid) and steering rack bushing. It is a big job and takes a fare bit of time and lots of patients.
Combined the two h3's took 10 hrs. easy.
A lot of research and about 500 for parts.
Ugh!

 

Year of H3 would be needed to determine whether you have an intermediate steering shaft issue, as the part was redesigned and used in production starting late 2007.

Your click is a bunch to do about nothing, you have a dry steering shaft U Joint behind the dash. Look under there and wipe a dab of grease on it.
