People I have talked to said GM insisted they must have been doing something to trigger the sensors, even though they weren't. GM just doesn't want to pay or accept responsibility. Hopefully the huge airbag recall has opened their attitude to the possibility that the airbags/sensors they installed have issues.

I beg to differ. I say welcome to GM. Toyota would never treat their customers like this. This is a GM thing. I've owned numerous Toyotas, myself and extended family and we are all treated very well at the Dealer. After I purchased my H3 a few years back I finally went to my local GM Dealer recently and was treated horribly. Unorganized, the service rep was obese and smelled like McDonalds, she cursed the mechanic who was a struggling Cuban immigrant barely spoke english ... just a horrid experience.

This was the first time I set foot in a GM Dealer since the 1980s.

No wonder the TUNDRA has taken over as the best Truck today.

This is EXACTLY why the Hummer is and will continue to depreciate because savvy buyers don't want to deal with a discontinued vehicle and GM for years is synonymous with bad customer service. I advise go to a locally owned independent GM shop where you are taken seriously and treated with respect.

This is one point I would agree with you on; my local GM here where I live have been VERY help full. Other one in the big city I had two take to court twice 1- for labor 1- for parts on 350 crate motor small block for a k5 blazer actually I won it was just peanuts though and back in the 90's.I believe it was 9-12 man hours for the install and parts couldn't be more than $2,000 it was a small claims court.

Back to the information the OP asked about:

What were you doing when the air bags blew?? Wheeling

What was GM's reasoning for denying the claim??they said that the black box said that the system was in the specified paramaters and that they would not cover the premature launch of the SIR system. GM did cover the loaner for 30+ days.

What was the end result?? I contacted my insurance company. They came out and surveyd the vehicle for any body damage. The was not any body damage and they covered the repair of the H3.

Ay mods to the vehicle?? Sure was modified, but nothing that would effect the SIR module or sensors.

This will be my next port of call if there are any issues, still waiting on GM to get back to us with their assessment, we still have a hire car (Mitsubishi Xtrail), which does not have a tow bar, which is very annoying as we do a LOT of towing and the H3 is out tow car.

Been unable to tow my car trailer, which I was supposed to do to deliver a car that is still sitting here waiting for my H3 back, can't get hay for the horses, as we get large hay bails with our trailer, so a neighbour was kind enough to pick hay up for us etc etc

Hoping the will get back to us shortly, so we can see where we stand

To our surprise Hummer contacted us today in writing and said that they will cover all repairs to the vehicle, and asked us to authorise for them to start work.

They did say that they believe that the after market head rest DVD monitors caused the air bags to deploy, we have subsequently pointed out to them they they are Genuine Hummer DVD head rests as supplied by Hummer Dealer.

Anyway, waiting for repairs to be completed now.
