Default H2 Title Discrepancy - Need Opinion

Ok so looking at purchasing a 2003 H2. Everything checks out as far as Carfax. Cars mileage is 62000 miles. However when he retitled the car at DMV in October 2017, for some reason he estimated it at 65000 miles. So now the title has 65000 miles while the car really only has 62000 miles. If I proceed with purchasing vehicle, is there a way to correct it, or do I just put down 65001 miles when I register the car in my name? Also I can only go to my friendly mechanic until I hit 65000 miles so that odometer doesn't get recorded? I do believe it was an honest mistake so what do you think can be done or should be? I just dont want to make the wrong move and the title gets flagged as "miles unknown". Thanks!

You own it already and it's only 3000 miles. It would be different if it were 30K. Record it at 65K and spend your time focusing on repairs and maintenance.

You need to go to your DMV and tell them what happened. They can straighten it out. Was the person you purchased it from a dealer or individual? The dealer can do it for you if so. The worst thing you want is to have it flagged as a TMU, true mileage unknown because then the value is in question and worth a lot less. You might even have issues if you insure it today, wreck it tomorrow and the mileage is not as indicated.

FYI my dad is a retired dealer from FL and this came from him.

I would buy it, take it to your mechanic for service and in no time you will have 65k on it and it won't matter.
