Default H2 Alpha

Has hummer ever thought about making an H2 Alpha? They have an H1 alpha and an H3 Alpha, and the H2 could use more power.....fuel mileage could become an issue but still

the diesel is supposed to be coming in 2009. personally, i don't think the H2 should get an alpha badge, it's been too diluted by putting it on the H3. call it beta or gamma or something, or just leave it as is.

It's going to be real interesting to see how well the H2 with a diesel will sell. Reason I say this is that the cost alone is going to be darn close to 10K more for the diesel option (the diesel option in a pickup is at almost7K today). On top of this, the dealers are sure to push the 'market adjustment' additional markup as well.

I figure it this way:

2008 H2 Lux - $65000
Diesel Option - $7000
Total - $72000

This is of course not including any dealer markup. Additionally, diesel fuel prices are .70 more per gallon here, and with the new emissions and diesel standards, the diesel's are getting the same mileage as gas engines. Take that along with the new '08 engine/trans/gearing combo, and there isn't going to be any mileage difference at all.

So in short, you'd be spending probably at least 10K more over a non-diesel, and then paying even more for fuel. In the diesel pickup world, the argument around this is that the diesel trucks tow heavy loads easier that gas engined trucks. I don't see them rating a diesel equipped H2 to tow 12K or 15K.

As far as MPG, since they have the hew 6 speed they could have left the same engine, and most likely seen a few mpg increase, and then made the new engine even more powerful. Say 425hp or so, and called it the Alpha.

The H2 with the diesel option just may be the H2Alpha. Would also like to see a front locker, factory clinometer and the ability to shut of Traction Control completely.

You can't turn off your traction control on an H2?

It's similar to the Cadillac V-Series, on everything from CTS up to XLR. I don't think the H1 Alpha suffered any loss of character when the H3 Alpha came out, although, I know which Alpha I'd rather have in my garage..

There is no option for it, but it does have TC2 mode which allows for some wheel slippage - but it does not allow for enough when trying to climb a steep muddy hill.

In the H2, you have two options to attempt to climb that steep muddy hill. One is to pull the TC fuse and two is to lightly ride the brake to disable TC. I'd rather be able to disable it all together, as riding the brake is not good on the brake pads.
