Mike, I just realized something. Do you have a aftermarket "stubby" antenna on your H3? We had an H2 come in today with the same radio problem you mentioned. It hhad the stubby antenna. When we switched the antenna to the OEM one, poof! The problem was solved!

I bet that's what's happening. There might be a short in the antenna, whish doesnt make a whole lotta sense, unless the antenna mount itself has shorted to the chasis somehow, but that wouldn't explain how it is fixed by replacing the antenna. I don't want that big thing on there. If that's the case, I'll just put up with the static. It may just be snow or rain that got in there that is causing some problems. That would explain why it gets lighter sometimes. My boy, I think you figured it out!

Is it just AM that has the static? or both FM and AM...

Just AM for all three of us, who all have the short antenna, well, the H2 no longer does according to Mike. FM works perfectly fine with no interference

 

mine did it before I put on the stunny antenna. I'm going to ask the service guy to put a new one on to see if that works. Like you said if that's the case I can deal with the static. I like the look of the stubby one better. I don't listen to the AM station very often I mostly listen to the XM. Plus I pick up more FM channels with the stubby antenna then I did with the big one....can't figure that out

 

That's because its girth, not length that gets you better reception!
