Got a weird one... srv 4x4, traction off...etc.. Not the Encoder Motor
06 H3 134k
Back some time ago I went through the diagnosis of the problem an with the help of other forum sleuths decided to changed out Transfer Case Motor Encoder (Actuator) part no. 89059551,(89059688),19300596.
Also seal: 19209788
Having "Service Stabil Trac" warnings coming up yet again we once again changed the Miss's encoder motor on Saturday 03/03/18.
Problem, it didn't get rid of the messages... I got a text this morning that the error was back and she was not happy.
The first remand Transfer Case Motor Encoder (Actuator) from Auto zone lasted a couple years.
The newest Transfer Case Motor Encoder (Actuator) is an actual new one from ACDelco. This is the one installed on 03/03/18.
I kinda doubt that both would throw the same error.
What other things should I do next to figure out this problem?

My wife's Tahoe had issues with the "Service 4WD" message repeatedly. The truck would also randomly shift the transfer case into neutral while driving. I would replace the Encoder motor (Autozone) and it would solve the problem temporarily, but it kept reoccurring after about 3-6 months. Replaced it 3-4 times...finally was told by a mechanic that I trust that the aftermarket encoder motors will not last on the Chevy; gotta go with OEM. Put the (much more expensive) OEM encoder motor in, and it has worked now for 7+ years.
Now, I understand that the H3 encoder motor is likely a different model than the Tahoe, but it IS still GM, and I wonder if the same conditions exist; aftermarket=bad OEM=good? Problem is that your OEM one didn't solve the issue; so perhaps you got a bad OEM unit? Just thought I'd throw that out there (to muddy the waters some more?). I'd see if you could exchange the new OEM one. That would either solve the issue or rule out the encoder motor entirely.

I'm leaning towards that possiblity of abs wiring, sensors also.
The odd thing after installing the new encoder motor the system behaved flawlessly but it was a pleasant, calm warmish day. Monday morning was cool and she once again received the same error msg. Also, when it's cold, wet or snowy the msg comes on in the DIC.
It goes out after a few pleasant calm warmish days. Odd!!!
I spent till the wee hours last night researching this issue with gm products and am leaning toward the wheel sensors as a possible problem or the wiring. I guess it is very common for the wires to decay, break or for rust to build up inside the hubs and cause the speed sensor to be out of spec. Must of watched 2-3 hours of videos with guys with gm or GMC products that had this stabilatrac, srv 4x4, etc... problems.
I checked to make sure her brake light was coming on and it was. So I'm guessing that kinda rules out the brake switch.
The push buttons on the dash seem to work as I can hear the encoder motor actuator change position.

Did a bit more testing this evening and results.....
The three button hi/hi lock/lo lock all switch back and forth but the error msg comes right back within a short time. "service stabilatrac" etc... in the DIC.
The lights on the control are working.
And when hi lock or lo lock are active msg. in DIC is cleared.
Hmmmm?

Try scanning every computer for codes. There might be some code to give you a direction. Or, try putting some contact enhancer on the plug terminals. Use the stuff carefully. It's really, really, very expensive. I use it on many low voltage (5 Volts) connection any time I can't find a problem. Here is a link to Amazon
No guarantee it will fix it. I'm not sure if there is any low voltage at that plug.

Well today went AutoZone and rented a very nice scan tool/code reader.
Innova 3160 is similar to the one rented but the newer model could do even more tests and stuff.
https://www.autozone.com/test-scan-a...srs/237646_0_0
Ran a slew of test and was unable to find one thing out of place. Yet lol the DIC displayed the msg. while testing commenced.
With this tool I was able to view/scan a bunch of things and test abs, srs, obd, o2s, dtc, evap, battery, charging,etc... It found everything I would want but not any faults.
What next????
