I am not trying to pour salt in anyone's wounds, but does this mean my 07 will have the longer warranty even if I bought 3 weeks ago?

New warranty will also apply retroactively to 2007 cars and trucks that have already been sold. Check out the GM web site and they say to expect new documentation.

The 07 has a better warranty and more HP......I bought mine the day it was released to the public. Actually I did not even know until finance told me. I was stoked. If I am not mistaken, the transfer case is not covered in this 100K.

Why wouldn't the transfer case be covered in the 100k? It sees all of the abuse the transmission can send it for all of those miles, and the axles see the abuse sent to them from it. Why would everything upstream and down stream be covered, but not that?

I think Powertrain also includes the transfer case

GM announces 5 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty

New GM 100k powertrain warranty, yesterday I got a cryptic email from the PR folks at General Motors: Join us for a live satellite feed of a press conference by CEO Rick Wagoner. I figured that whatever it was it'd have free food -- and no journalist worth his or her salt gives up free food.

The announcement was, as you can probably surmise, an extension of GM's warranty. Coverage of the powertrain -- engine, transmission, and the bits that make the wheels go 'round -- expands from 5 years/60,000 miles to 5 years or 100,000 miles. Roadside assistance and courtesy transportation are covered for the same period. The bumper-to-bumper warranty -- the one that covers the whole car -- remains unchanged: 3 years/36,000 miles for Chevrolet, GMC, Pontiac and Saturn, 4 years/50,000 miles for Buick, Cadillac, Hummer and Saab.

GM will announce the warranty with an advertising blitz that will cover newspapers, TV and billboards. Look for their snazzy new flying-car ad all over prime time TV starting tomorrrow night.

The increase in warranty coverage is modest, but I can understand the fanfare: 100,000 miles is an impressive number for a warranty. Look what it did for Hyundai and Kia. (Their powertrain warranty extends for 10 years, but it's not transferable if you sell the car. GM's is.) The goal is to infuse confidence in buyers who might not otherwise consider buying a GM car.

All investments in inproved product made by GM for MY 2007 and newer that make the H3 more desirable will have a possitive impact on us 2006 owners as well. While we can't enjoy the bigger engine or longer warranty now, more demand overall for H3 could help a bit in the future with better trade-in values for our trucks. This is certainly good news for those of you that are waiting to upgrade to upcoming V8 H3 model!
